Merging elements of psych-rock and dance music, Los Angeles' Bad Magic is a musical force to be reckoned with. Formed in 2023 by friends Remi Courville and Alton Allen (Poolside, Low Roar) Bad Magic is a meeting of two fiercely independent musical spirits, a shout into the darkness of the contemporary musical landscape, and an attempt by these nomadic artists to find purpose and shape within a shifting moment.
In 2023 the duo released their first EP (under the Create Music imprint) and quickly found streaming success with 'Long Way Home'; a nostalgia-drenched Pink Floyd-era romp. To date the song has over half a million streams across platforms, and serves as the pair's underlining musical opening statement.
2023 also found the Bad Magic performing at underground festival Sequoia Sunrise, where they debuted the first incarnation of their live show featuring a wide range of original works both released and unreleased. Utilizing both Alton and Remi's skills as instrument- alists Bad Magic performances are part structured repetoire, part improvisation, all with a dash of (what else?) magic.
Working between tour dates with Poolside, 2024 saw the release of three more songs; the disco-psychedelia track ‘Until You', the lonesome, haunting ballad 'You're Not Alone' as well as 'Real Hard Time' which saw the boys experimenting with using unreasonable amounts of saturation and digital compression to create a seismic dance-floor statement.
2025 finds Bad Magic once again in their studio crafting what will become their debut album and honing their skills (along with drummer Tim Brennon) as a three-piece live experience. As morning dawns on 2025, Bad Magic are positioning themselves as industry darlings within the LA-music scene and might just be your favourite artist's next favourite artist in the new year...
